Midnight Sun

I have discovered Midnight Sun. Holy hell...it is delicious. And I'm not even past the cafeteria scene. My god - if reading about Edward was good...you don't even know what it's like to have a free, all-day pass into Edward's head. It's lovely. I don't ever want to leave...

I loved Midnight Sun and wish that Stephanie Meyer would have done this in Breaking Dawn...given us Edwards perspective instead of back and forth between Jacob and Bella. I will never for the life of me understand why in the HELL she thought that Jacob's voice during Bella's pregnancy would be more poignant than Edward's or Bella's.

With that said...I thought a lot of Breaking Dawn was a freak show and took the story in a direction that was ridiculous and so far from the original beauty of Twilight. i had a hard time reading certain parts because I was pissed off! Bella got EVERYTHING she wanted...and it just didn't seem realistic even in a book that is obviously fantasy...but that was the beauty of Twilight, ya know? You read it and felt like you could relate to the characters...that Vampires COULD exist like this. I am all for happy endings but this one left me a bit stale.

I have to say - I got VERY tired of her couch antics. And when Edward was whimpering on her lap, I was so annoyed. That isn't him. But - the birth scene was so amazing that I forgot how annoyed I'd been through most of her pregnancy. I was happy once she had been turned - and was also happy Edward got a free pass and was able to tell himself he was "saving" her and not "damning" her to hell. I got VERY antsy during the weeks leading up to the big showdown in the clearing (gee - where had we seen THAT before? Oh right - in Eclipse) but I found it to be all worth it because - I have to admit - I loved the ending. I was SO anxious and nervous that someone was going to die. And that would not have sat well with me. Everyone gets something different out of this series. Some people like the action. Some people like the love triangle. Some people like the darkness. I just loved the love story. So if Edward and Bella had been split up, I would have felt really cheated. I am happy to have them happy together with Renesmee (and even Jacob) for the rest of eternity. Probably because I project my own high school days onto the story and some of them just weren't pretty - but I digress. Anyway - I can agree with you that some parts got pretty tedious. I'll bet Stephenie Meyer thought so too, therefore #4 being the last book. BUT - don't you want to know what happens to Jacob and Renesmee in 6 years?! I do. I can see this turning into a Star Wars type of thing with prequels (Carlisle's story could be a 4 book thing, in itself, I'm sure.) and with a whole new Jacob and Renesmee series happening. BUT - I will always want more Bella and Edward....
